Amish people are generally considered foolish, due to the fact that they are living a simple life and don’t use the advantages of technology. However, the statistics show that these people are actually much healthier when compared to the rest of American population. They rarely get sick; have no autism and no cancer!
According to a recent study published in the journal Cancer Causes and Control, Amish people are the healthiest people in America and have virtually no cancer.
The study by the researchers from Ohio State University was initially conducted for the purpose of seeing whether rate of cancer would be higher in these people due to the lack of medical care. However, the results revealed the opposite!
Here is why the Amish Rarely Get Sick or get Cancer
1. The Amish Live Stress-Free Lives
Stress is the major cause of many health issues, as the cortisol levels are extremely higher when you are stressed. Obesity, adrenal fatigue, hormonal imbalances, increased cholesterol, high blood sugar levels, and heart disease are the main health issues associated with stress. Amish people live stress-free life and patient lifestyles. Their lifestyle is based on harmony, cooperation, and equality, meaning that they never compete with each other. They also live free self-sustainable and non-toxic lives, making them much healthier than the rest of Americans.
2. The Amish People are Physically Active
The Amish have a 3 % obesity rate when compared to the overall 31% obesity rate in U.S. Given the fact that they don’t use cars, the fact that their physical activity level is very high doesn’t come as surprise. As a matter of fact, women averaged 14,000 steps daily and men up to 18,000. They tend to walk a lot and are involved in physical activity on a regular basis, which is probably one of the reasons for their low rate of cardiovascular diseases. “The Amish were able to show us just how far we’ve fallen in the last 150 years or so in terms of the amount of physical activity we typically perform. Their lifestyle indicates that physical activity played a critical role in keeping our ancestors fit and healthy, ”- David R. Bassett, Ph.D., FACSM, a professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville says.
3. The Amish Eat Plenty of Healthy Fats
Even though the Amish have a high fat diet, their obesity rate is still very low. They consume a lot of meat, eggs, raw diary, and butter, all of which contain a lot of fat soluble vitamins like A, E, and K2. The modern diets lack vitamin K2 and deficiency in this vitamin may cause osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and even cancer. It is also important to mention that low-fat diet deprives our body from essential nutrients.
4. The Amish Eat Organic, Locally Grown Food
Amish people don’t consume processed food, but grow their own food organically instead. They also raise their own animals, meaning that none of their food is GMO. They eat seasonal food during the harvest and consume the rest canned or fermented. Seasonal fruits and veggies are highly nutritious and abundant in antioxidants which fight off free radicals and promote good health. Therefore, it seems that their diet largely contributes to the lack of asthma, food allergies, and ADHD.
5. The Amish Don’t Get Vaccinated
Amish people hardly ever have autism or any learning disabilities. As a matter of fact, there have been only three cases of autism among Amish in which the kids got vaccinated. Even though there is a strong link between the absence of vaccines and the lack of autism among these people, the society attributes this to the superior gene they possess. While the government pressures the Amish to vaccinate, they still refuse to do so
